Crusty Ear Pierce

If there’s anyone who has experienced this or know why this happens please comment down below!

My daughter is 18 months now and we got her ears pierced when she was 3 months. The piercing was fine for a couple of months but then her right ear pierce started to get crusty and leaking puss. I’ve removed it a few times and let it heal on its own sometimes applying Polysporin. Recently tho her earring bent while she was asleep (no idea how) and the back of the earring dug into her skin so it was a bit bloody. When I removed it was like a ball filled with puss and blood. It went down a bit and I was worried the hole will close so I put it back in but I still find that one ear crusty. Even after showers and cleaning it with the saline I bought when she got them pierced there’s no change. She also wears only 22K gold earrings so I have no clue how it bends in her sleep.

If there’s anything I can do please let me know.

Ps. It’s only on that one ear, her left ear pierce has not given any problems

I used to pierce ears at Claire’s. (By the way, I don’t recommend getting your ears pierced at Claire’s or anywhere else that uses a gun. It’s not good for your ears.) The crusty-ness that you’re seeing is a totally normal part of healing. You want to leave the earring in as much as possible. Continue to clean it with saline solution. If the earring is bending, it could be too long. Try to find ones with a shorter stud. I hope this helps!

It sounds infected, try cleaning the ear and around the earring 3 times a day.
