How do you ladies feel about circumcision?

So my SO doesn’t believe in genital mutilation. He is German and his mother didn’t either. I already have a 13 year old son that I did circumcise. His father wanted him to be and also my mother influenced me to do it. I never really thought about it till now. But one thing I do remember when my 13 year old was being circumcised in the hospital they had taken him to the nursery to do it and I could hear him screaming and crying from my room. It broke my heart and I was crying just hearing it. This will be his first child and I’m now 12 weeks. What are some of your thoughts?

We don't consider it genital mutilation, for one. The men on both sides of our family are circumcised for cultural and spiritual reasons. I came from a pro-circumcision family and my husband wants our sons circumcised. Those were our deciding factors for doing it. 
We don't shame, look down on, or think less than anyone who chooses not to do it. We recognize the benefits are circumstantial, not inherent. 
I will say, when our son was circumcised, it was by a doctor and nurse who love him dearly. He didn't cry at all and the next day, except for the vaseline gauze, you never would have known anything had happened.

Personally I do think it is mutilation and completely unwarranted unless indicated with a legitimate medical reason.

Both my sons are. Both times, they took them out of the room and then I was with them as soon as they were done. My first was pretty mad for about 20 minutes after, but I do believe that is because he was 2 weeks old already (he was in the nicu at first so they held off). My second was just fine when they brought him back. Both times I gave them milk after and they were ok. If you choose circumcision, just make sure you are taking care of it well. Lots of petroleum jelly that first week, but after a week, all should be good. (Of course this is MY experience with it￼.)

My friend wasn't circumcised at birth because his parents didn't want him to be.  Well as a little boy he kept getting infections and had to be circumcised at age 4. He remembers this procedure happening... I'm currently 11 weeks and if we have a little boy he will be circumcised. You just have to do what you feel is best for your baby.

To me, it comes down to, what do most of the boys look like in this region. I’m in Texas, I think most boys are circumcised here. I wouldn’t want him feeling different. But Ultimately it’s so personal.

personally i would circumcise my sons. I've had bad experiences with uncircumcised penises, the smell and the build up in the foreskin is just unhygenic. I've carried my brothers when they were circumcised as babies. after the initial pain they are just fine and it heals in about 5days with proper care. It's a similar pain to girls getting their ears pierced (which by the way heals in 4-6 weeks) 
the long term pro's also outweigh the short term cons I.e. 
A decreased risk of UTI 
A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases
Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners
Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the glans) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).
Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).
Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean. (personally I've found circumcised penis to be cleaner) 
short term cons of circumcision:
Pain
Risk of bleeding and infection at the site of the circumcision
Irritation of the glands
Increased risk of meatitis (inflammation of the opening of the penis)
Risk of injury to the penis
these are short term risks that are avoidable by proper aftercare of circumcision and proper hygiene. 
and please don't compare it to female circumcision, because female circumcision is aimed at removing a woman's ability to be aroused, reduce her libido, controlling her sexuality, a way to make a woman keep her virginity and stay loyal after marriage. FGM is all about CONTROL of the girl child! her clitoris is removed alongside the labia sometimes and the long and short term effects are devastating. infertility, hemorraging, pain during sex and inability to create natural lubrication, complications during childbirth to name a few! 
this is just my view and not persuading you to circumcise. that's a personal choice between you and your partner but it's good to do your intense research as I have. I personally would rather circumcise at birth when they don't understand the pain than being told they need to be circumcised at an age when they understand the pain and may be traumatised (as I know adults who have had to go through it later in life)

I didn’t with our son. There’s no reason to put a newborn through that unless a doctor said otherwise. It was a very easy decision for me.

My husband is German, too, and he isn’t circumsized. If we have a boy, we aren’t going to and I’m okay with that. There’s no real medical reason to do it.
