Good idea or bad idea?

Question

So my husband and I are both essential workers, so we’ll both be working until basically until baby is born. I’m having major anxiety over if me or my husband get COVID and have to be separated from the baby and also he wouldn’t be allowed in the room while I give birth.
So, I was considering asking my OB if maybe we could set an induction date (Like at 39 weeks maybe) so that we know exactly when baby is coming so DH and I could take a week off before she’s born to self isolate. 
Is this a good idea or a bad idea? I don’t know anything about induction so idk if thats unsafe or anything. Just wanted to run it by you guys so I don’t sound stupid to my doctor.

These are unprecedented times. I don't think it is a stupid thing to ask about. Normally my default answer would be don't induce unless medically necessary! But I also could not imagine the possibility of going through labor without my husband or possibly having my child taken away as soon as they were born if I had the virus. It's a complicated and difficult situation and I think it would be a good discussion to have with your doctor so you can feel confident that you have the best plan possible worked out. I mean it's a good idea to quarantine before, but I'd want to carry my baby to the full 40 weeks. Then schedule an induction.

Induction increases the risk of something going wrong. It is by far the better choice to let the body decide, when it's ready to give birth.
Having said that, I get why you want it.
You're still working so long even with covid and everything? I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I wish they would take better care of pregnant personnel.
But you can get covid and not show signs of before much later. That's part of why it's so tricky. It can be 11-14 days before you show any signs. So a week of won't do much. Other than the fact it might be really good for you two to have some time off.

I wouldn’t have an elective induction unless you absolutely have to... my mom was high risk with my brother so she had to be induced before he was ready to come out, and she was in labor for over 48 hours 😖
Also 1 week is not enough time to make sure you’re covid-free anyway, incubation can be up to 2 weeks

37 weeks and being induced at 39.5. It’s considered elective for me right now but I’ve been having enough problems they are monitoring it could become medically necessary. I was just told that my hospital will require a covid test for moms so 7 days before I’m scheduled and will have to quarantine until it comes back, so it’s not a bad question. If we get access to more testing, my husband will also need to be tested and also isolate. Things change quickly with this so ask your care provider anything you have questions about.

39 weeks is a perfectly fine time to be induced. However, if this is your first baby, your OB May not do it. My OB doesn’t induce electively like that on first pregnancies. No harm in asking though.
