Flat stove or stove with burners??

Okay. We rent our house. The stove quit back in November, I called the landlord and told him. It took him 4 days to get me another one. When it finally got here it was an old 80's model stove. And now the burners are not turning on, not turning off, not regulating the heat and sparking from time to time. Called our landlord again and he said he just replaced it so he can't replace it again. So i guess we will buy our own. So..flat top or one with burners? What's your recommendation?
