Fever no other symptoms? Doctor says to wait 5 days with fever before coming back?

My son had an unexplained fever for 3 days now. I thought he had an ear infections I took him to the doctor yesterday. He doesn't have one and hasn't really had any other symptoms. Today, he started getting diarrhea.   His fever has been coming and going tho. He hasn't had a fever since 6am. Last time I gave him medication was at like 10 because he felt a little warm. It's 8pm and he has a fever AGAIN. I thought maybe it was over. I wrote his doctor earlier and once again said don't worry about until day 5. 
He's only 10 months old. I'm contemplating bringing him to urgent care tomorrow. 
Anyone else have a similar circumstance with a fever and no other symptoms? And is it normal for a doctor to say to wait until your baby has had a fever for 5 days??? 
His fever was 101.5 the majority of the time. 102 the first day. Most recently it was 100.7.

We had a fever with no other symptoms for three days. Suspected Roseola. Took him in on day 3, doctor also suspected Roseola. Later that day the fever broke, and next day, a textbook roseola rash appeared. His fever was mostly between 39-40C (102-104F) and we only medicated him at night to help him sleep. We did nothing else for the fever.

My sons doctor did this when he was 1 it was like two weeks of don’t worry wait it out. We ended up in the hospital for two weeks turns out he has two infection in his mouth. My mom also had this happen with my sister when she was 13 doctor told her not to worry it was like a week later sister ended up in the hospital with a burst appendix and had to stay in the hospital for 3 months. Now I just wait a day or two if fever still didn’t go down I go straight to the ER.
