Baby + Long Car ride ?

Question

I’m trying to plan a trip to my family’s vacation homes in Maine, I live in Florida .... so it’s like 20-23hrs , my son loves the car doesn’t really cry unless he’s sleepy or hungry but when we get moving he’s silent.
We took a 5 hour drive a few months ago and he slept basically the whole time or just looked out the window... 
Hes 8 month old and I don’t obviously want to fly!! but I would love to be lake side and eating fresh cheese while I casually sip my wine and have my SO & mom help with the baby! Don’t we all need a vacation lol.
But has anybody taken a 20+ hour road trip with your little one ?? 
Am I crazy for even thinking it ? 
Is it not safe or okay to baby be in the car seat that long ? Well obviously stop a hundred times but that’s okay, I love road trips.

He should not be in the seat for that long. They say no more than 2-3 hours at a time but if you've done 5 hours and he was fine I suppose that would be okay. But definitely not longer than that. He needs to be able to stretch and what not. So if you take the trip you should space it out to include rest stops so baby can get out of his seat

We did 8 hours , a couple days later 10 hours and then back home 16 hours around Xmas when my daughter was 3 months. We learned to make our stops efficient but would get her stretched out .  I’d sit in the back and play with her too every couple stops.  It worked out us leaving at like 5 am so she slept a lot at first

Long story short: 
I had to move our 6 month twins from Virginia to Arizona. My husband was deployed so my parents helped me. I’m originally from Louisiana so we were stopping there for about a month so family and friends could see the twins. My dad mapped the trip out. It was going to take us 16 hours from Va - La and another 12 hours from La - Az. It took us 3 days to get from Va-La. He booked the hotels ahead of time to keep us on the 3 days schedule. The hotels were all 6 hours apart from each other. It would take us about 8ish + hours to get to each destination due to traffic and pit stops. Some stretches were more challenging than others. The twins definitely let me know when they were ready to get out. 
 When our stay in New Orleans was coming to an end, I begged my dad to drive my car and let my mom and I fly from New Orleans to Arizona. I couldn’t put the twins and myself through that again.

Yep we’ve done multiple cross country trips with our kids. My 2nd turned 3 months on a 2.5 week rv trip to Yellowstone. Get baby out of the car seat every couple of hours to nurse or have a bottle and wiggle around. Everything will be fine. You’re not driving all day every day. It’s a one or two day thing and then back to normal.

I’m taking my daughter on a 14 hour drive in a month she’ll be 6 months. Hoping everything goes good!!

I drove 18 hours with my son at 8 months old and he did perfect. We stopped when he’d wake up mostly. Or if we were gonna eat or go to the bathroom we’d wake him.
