RAYSHARD BROOKS

The Atlanta Police Department released the bodycam footage over the weekend of the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks, 27, in a Wendy’s parking lot on Friday night.

Brooks’ death led has since to the resignation of Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields and the firing of Garret Rolfe, who was identified as the officer who killed Brooks. The second officer who was with Rolfe during the incident, identified as Devin Bronsan, has also been placed on administrative duty.

The incident reportedly began after Bronsan found Brooks asleep in the ‘middle of the drive-thru line’ and woke him up. The officer tells Brooks to pull into a parking spot. He then calls for backup for a DUI-certified officer, which is when Officer Rolf arrives.

Rolfe asks Brooks numerous questions including whether he knows where he is and if he had been drinking. Brooks eventually tells the officer that he had ‘one-and-a-half’ margaritas and agrees to take a breathalyzer test.

After the test, Rolfe tells Brooks, ‘I think you’ve had too much to drink to be driving’ and attempts to take Brooks into custody, but a struggle breaks out.

The officers can be heart shouting at Brooks to ‘stop fighting’ and ‘you’re going to get Tased.’

An officer can be heard screaming, ‘hands of the Taser’ as the bodycam falls to the ground. An officer can then be heard saying, ‘He’s got my fucking taser.’

Rolfe can be seen drawing his weapon and three shots are heard in the footage, but the actual shooting was not seen because the camera was on the ground pointing up at the sky.

Dashcam footage shows Brooks and the two officers wrestling on the ground before Brooks rises out of the scrum with a taser. He and one of the officers is seen running out of the frame in the footage that ends with the second officer firing his Taser.

Security footage taken from the Wendy’s parking lot, which was released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, shows Brooks running away from the officers when he was shot. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries after surgery.

In the aftermath of the shooting – and as protests continue across the country in the wake of George Floyd’s death – demonstrators burned the Wendy’s where Brooks was killed to the ground while demanding justice.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms responded to the shooting by demanding that Rolfe be fired and said she does not believe there ‘was a justified use of deadly force’ in the case of Brooks’ death.

The office was charged today with felony murder as well as 10 other charges and another cops has agreed to testify.

Do you agree with these charges? Are you happy to see a change with the cops actually being charged?

Or, do you think this is being done to stop the protests and to make everyone think we have actually change?

Obviously, we will wait for the conviction and before anyone brings it up, yes I know he was charged with child cruelty ( although yes I'm disgusted at that charge, and yes it's horrible ), and yes I'm aware he hit the officer. That's irrelevant to this case as he was running away and his past history does not dictate or even become relevant to this case nor does it justify his murder. So save that, thanks.
