Anyone else’s 16 month old STILL NOT TALKING?

My son is 16 months old, and doesn’t talk. He babbles a lot and understands A LOT! But WONT TALK 🙄 it’s driving me crazy because I’m worried he might be delayed. He communicates by grabbing my hand and taking me wherever he wants to go (outside or upstairs for instance) or if he wants his bottle, he’ll take me to his blankey since he associates it with drinking.  
Anyone else on the same boat?

He will be fine. I feel like boys tend to talk later than girls. Every child is different. He will talk when he’s ready ❤️

Is he a only child? I only ask this because my first took a bit to talk but my second baby talked sooner and my third even sooner. I’ve heard they tend to pick things up quicker when there are siblings around to mimic.

I’m a preschool teacher for typically developing children and children with special needs. My advice is don’t become frustrated or annoyed. Your child can’t help this. He has some strengths by understanding you and guiding you to what he wants. You just need to continue to be his voice and describe everything he’s doing or looking at. You can also use a variety of visuals and start some baby sign language to help him communicate. Keep an eye on it. Yes, boys tend to talk later but I would bring this up to your pediatrician. In my experience, the sooner you get help the better. The brain is taking in soooo much during the first 5 years of life. Where I live we have a service called Help Me Grow. These are professionals that help parents who may suspect a delay in their child. They then even help you with transitioning into an appropriate preschool. Preschool is one of the best things you can do for your 3-5 year olds.

My son is the same age. If he is understanding things he should be fine. My son only says a couple of words like mama dada and hi and could care less to say anything else. My nephew babbled until he was over two and he is five now and you can't get the kid to stop talking haha. You kiddo will start talking when he is ready:)

I used to panic with my son then I was told by my dr that boys are slow. My son would point or say words but couldn't put them together. Im not a doctor but I know every child is different  so I  recommend speaking to your doctor about it.

My son had his own language basically until he was like 3. He understood us perfectly. He's now 5 and speaks wonderfully. My nephew is the same way (who just turned 3). It's normal. They'll talk when they want to.

My son is 3 and not talking yet. He’s going to start pre-K this year on an IEP/special Ed.
