Would you tell?

Question

If you knew your mom was planning on leaving your stepdad (has a storage unit, is apartment shopping, slowly moving small things out of the house he won't notice) would you tell him? It's not an abusive situation or anything dangerous like that and they've been together 10 years. She's leaving because they've been fighting for years about the same issues with no improvements and she's tried bringing up divorce but he just brushes it off, acts "better" for a few weeks to get the conversation off the table, then goes back to the ways that cause arguments. I'm torn because of course I love my mom and my stepdad has been in my life so long he really is family and I just feel bad that she's trying to leave how she is. I'm trying not to take sides but does it make me a "bad person" to stand by and say nothing? (NO RUDE COMMENTS PLEASE)

You have no idea if it’s an abusive relationship or not. It’s amazing how much you don’t see behind closed doors. Don’t say anything. Why would you even want to put your mom in that type of situation?

Sounds like her reasons for leaving are justified. Let her deal with it the way she needs to.

As a person with a mom and stepdad as well I can see where you’re coming from. My stepdad is basically my dad since he’s raised me since I was 2. I’m not experienced with adult relationships and many here in the comments tell you to butt out etc... I would also be troubled because if you dont say to the other parent it puts blame on you somehow so then it becomes your business in some sense. If your mom specifically said not to say anything, just let it be. I would feel guilty towards my stepdad if this was the case... but that’s MY situation. Yours could vary in so many different ways. 
Just dont tell him. BUT let your mom know how you feel and maybe she’ll talk more about what’s happening in the relationship so you can better understand the situation.
That’s just me as a person who could see the pain and confusion you could have.

I can see why this would put you in a hard place, but your mom wants out and you should respect her decision to do it the way she wants. But to answer your question, no I wouldn’t tell. I’d keep your relationship with both of them by staying out of it. I’m sorry you’re going through this ❤️

I wouldn’t tell him. And I don’t think you have any ethical obligation to tell him. That being said I DO think you can absolutely tell your mom that you’re uncomfortable with how she’s handling the situation and ask her to keep you out of the middle of it.

I wouldn't tell him. No matter how much you love him, you don't know what they are going through in their relationship. If your mom thinks this is how she needs to end things, it is what it is.
You are in a really awkward position but it will just get worse if you say something. Your mom will lose trust in you, chances are your step dad won't take it well. Better to let them just figure it out.
