Am i the reason for my son not talking...?

Anyone’s child 22 months or close to that age and not taking much. My son understands even complicated instructions and shows he’s learning new words each day but he rarely talks in small sentences, if he does talk it’ll just be a word. I’m getting told a lot that he’s delayed even though his doctor didn’t see no issues at his 20 month check up. Any advice or suggestions would be appropriated, I feel like I’m setting him up for failure because everyone says it’s because I work or because he gets screen time or because he doesn’t have a sibling or any other children to play with..he can say many words and count to 5, he’s also trying to say the alphabet but he just seems to have no care to speak especially around strangers..

My son is 23 months and says very few words. Every kid develops their speech skills at different levels and at different times. As long as he’s learning new words regularly I wouldn’t worry. My dr recommended a speech therapist but the speech therapist wasn’t too worried. She said the goal is to be communicating well in time for kindergarten. That’s a long time off, so like I said, I think as long as they’re still learning words it’s no big deal.

Nope speech delays happen. Just contact early intervention so they can help with speech.

Well my kid's had a decent amount of screen time and if anything it expand their vocabulary.. depending on the show I would talk back to the tv if it asked a question... just make sure whoever is watching him talks alot to him.... I would talk a lot to them and we'd  watch all kinds of shows and go on nature walks and talk about whatever plant, tree or rocks lol..

My 21 mo knows very few words. I’m not worried about it because he understands a ton and can follow instructions well.

I have a 27 month old who doesn’t talk a lot. He knows a lot of words but he doesn’t string them together in a sentence.  I was so stressed when he kept getting older and I barely saw growth in his vocabulary especially because my older son was already talking in sentences by the same age. I kept asking his pediatrician and she assured me that as long as he’s making an effort that he is ok and will eventually catch up. The funny thing is that he will sing a full nursery rhyme but will rarely say more than one word at a time. Like others have said you can always take him to a speech therapist but for the moment try reading and asking him questions even if he doesn’t respond, it’s showing him the basics of conversations.

My 23m old can say about 20-25 words. I’m not worried about it. Out of no where’s he’s been trying new words and is saying a new one almost everyday. Just read to him lots and converse as much as possible. Maybe talk to daycare about seeing if they can have someone do some coaching a few times a day or engaging in more one on one with him while he’s there. If the drs not worried and you asked about it directly, I wouldn’t be worried about it.

My son will be 2 july 30th and barley talks he say something that i can understand clear and then everything else is just like huh ? but he understands everything i tell him to do or ask him what he wants he’ll drag me to it or point to and he goes to daycare 5 days a week and has an older sister who is almost 6 so i think he’s just delayed on talking i’m not to worried about it but the doctor said we will start working on something when i bring him in for his 2 year check up if he’s not doing any better !

I'm a SAHM, my daughter is 23 months old with a 10 year old sister, she only recently started watching anything on TV and had zero interest before now, and she also doesn't talk much. Some kids just talk later than others. It's common in my family. She's able to communicate in her own way so I'm not too worried. We read to her frequently and talk to her a lot. Thats all we can do. They'll talk when they're ready or your doctor will refer you to a speech therapist if they're worried.

Some children have speech delays, all of the things you mentioned can be a factor, but if you really have concerns let him get an early interventions evaluation and see what they think.
