Zoom Showers?

What are your thoughts on zoom baby showers with COVID right now?  I’m struggling with asking people to give gifts without feeding/entertaining them.  But on the other hand, I don’t want people to feel unsafe by coming to a gathering.

You could have the close people drive by and give them a care o large before the zoom call starts. We made everyone a treat box and dropped them off before my daughters zoom party and everyone loved it.

We live 6.5 hours (more for some) away from all of our family and friends back home I’d be the one who has to travel for a shower and I know our family is split on how they feel about the virus.l right now. I personally don’t want to travel when I’m 7-7.5 months pregnant and if I did my husband would have to come with me, we’d have to board our dogs, take time off of work for both of us etc. it would be much more work so I am selfishly grateful that COVID turned zoom celebrations into a thing. If someone thinks it’s tacky that I’m a first time mom who is worried about an unknown illness then they can just decline the invitation no one is forcing them to send me a gift or log on. For us it works for more than one reason and I don’t feel like I have travel since this is an issue right now where normally I’d feel like I had to go down to be there in person. Does it suck and do I feel for the people who have lost someone? Yes, 100%. But this is a way to keep me and my baby safe as well as not have to spend $400 to attend my own baby shower when I could have just used that money to purchase the gifts myself lol.

Personally, I like the idea of a drive by shower more. They can drop the present off, say hi outside, grab a little treat or favor, and then head back home. Anyone who doesn’t want to come can just send the gift like they would have if unable to attend a regular shower (or not send one at all). Zoom parties, I’ve been to two for birthdays, just feel awkward to me because only one person can really talk at a time and if people don’t know other people it might just turn into them sitting there and then it feels rude to leave but then they’re kind of over it.

We have one coming up in 2 weeks and honestly I’m not looking forward to it because I feel like it will be awkward. However, family and friends have been so sweet and kind to send us gifts, that I feel like it’s more awkward to not say hey/thank you on a quick zoom call.

I had a zoom shower with just family members. They were giving gifts anyways, so at least they could see me open them and we played some games and stuff as well. My mom and aunt sent them all little bags of treats and decorations to put up during the zoom.
