Deployment during COVID and giving birth?

I’m looking for anyone who has given birth, or are expecting while their husband is deployed and it’s been during COVID. I understand every case is different and it’s usually up to command, but was your husband able to come home to be there for the birth? Will he be sent home at all following the birth, or just see the baby after deployment?

I feel like they most likely won't send him home and you should be prepared for that. It's really unfortunate. my husband was able to come home during deployment (not covid time) to be with me for my daughter's birth, But it wasn't an easy process. They have to be somewhere that he is able to fly out of. If they want to send him home on a commercial flight, they might be restricted depending on where they are in the world, might not be allowed back to the US without quarantining before. I would make sure you have a friend with you if you're able to FaceTime the birth, or have somebody record. Cuz it makes everything weird, but hopefully his command is understanding and if they're able to make it work they will send him. It's just really hard to say

They don’t send them home for cases like that, unless there is an emergency like something bad happens to the mom or baby.

My husband was in the army and he said the entire time he was in he didn’t see anybody come home from a deployment for the birth of their child. This could be different based on the branch/place of deployment. He went to Afghanistan but if they’re in a place like Germany they might be more lenient.

During my husbands last deployment (he’s navy) there were probably close to 10 babies born, and nobody was allowed to come home for the births. Unfortunately, from what I’ve heard it’s not common for them to be able to come home.
