Firefighters/fire wives question?

Okay, I have someone I know that I can reach out to and ask, but I haven’t talked to them in years soo I’m asking strangers first 😂

Anyways, I know you should sleep with your bedroom door closed, in the event of a house fire. My sons bedroom door is always closed. We sleep with our door open so that our animals can come and go as they please, which gets us more sleep. I would really like to start sleeping with the door closed, for fire safety reasons.

My question is, if we installed a doggy-door on our bedroom door, would that defeat the purpose? Or cutting out a small part of the bottom of the door?

I feel like it would be redundant, and it’s probably just as bad as having the door open, but I’m just not sure?
