why do lips heal like that?! (warning: graphic)

also, anyone else’s kid bust their lip fairly often? god i hate it i feel so bad for him. he’s 18m but has been RUNNING since 11 months. super active and all it takes is one trip/fall and his face slams into the ground and his lip is always the culprit. better than a broken nose, i suppose. but regardless, it always heals this way. it’s not infected, it never has been and i have taken him to the doc for it.

why is it white? and why does the area look so much larger than yesterday where it busted???? i just don’t understand. i’m assuming it’s normal but idk.
