Toy at mealtime?

I feel like we are going to regret this. Our 1 year old suddenly stopped eating. Loved everything before, now seats the spoon away, even when he’s hungry. So one day, one of us gave him a toy car to hold. Suddenly, he ate bc he wasn’t focused on resisting. I’m not sure if this is going to cause a long term problem where he’ll refuse to eat without toys now.

Is it better to just put the food away when he resists, and feed him when he’s hungry? I feel like that’s the way to go but I don’t know.
