When Rheagan was 7 months old she had spiked a fever of 104, as a nurse I was rotating Tylenol and ibuprofen to try and help bring down this fever. Rheagan was clearly uncomfortable I knew she needed to go in. I brought her in to a small town ER-the first and LAST time I would ever bring her to that specific place. The Health Care Provider that was on call acted like he could careless. He didn’t listen to any of my concerns. You could tell he didn’t want to be there. Maybe he didn’t know this-but I didn’t want to be there either however I was concerned about my babies health. He refused to do any labs, or even a simple urine test. He didn’t seem to care that she hasn’t had a wet diaper is 24 hours. In fact, he asked if I knew how to properly take a temp. Instead he told me it was teething and to give Tylenol suppository to get the fever down and if this didn’t work to come back. I remember bawling to my mom in frustration. Lost for words. I talked to her primary the next day who got her in. Below is her CBC, US, and urine results. Next thing we knew we were in the hospital battling this. She was septic- no antibiotic seemed to be helping. Feeling shitty, pissed off, and just trying to care for Rheagan. Pediatric Infectious disease got involved and we started to see improvement and were able to be discharge after 1.5 weeks in the hospital. Points to be made- forever grateful for her primary as she has listened to any concern of mine and gave nothing but honest medical advise. 2. To the healthcare provider that was too cocky to do anything- I hope you have improved your practice. I hope you take concerns seriously. 3. The first facility refused to drop the bill for their Health Care Providers ignorance. So not only am I stuck paying them but also 1,000’s of dollars in a hospital bill.
