Do you feed your one year old?

My daughter is one, and she’s been self feeding since she was about 11 months old.  I thought this was normal but I found out my mother in law and sister and law have been calling me a “lazy mother” because I am too lazy to feed her myself 
I am not trying to be lazy, I have no problem feeding her myself (I do if it’s something with a spoon) I just thought it was good for them to learn how to do it themselves 
Please no harsh comments I am already feeling sad

Umm no. Her feeding herself is fantastic and a great milestone to hit. My girl never enjoyed being fed once she understood how spoons and forks worked. She was around 10-11 months as well when she turned completely independent. Its not lazy - its fostering independence.

No? We did baby led weaning so I gave her food and let her do what she wanted. I also gave her utensils since 6 months and by 12 months she was a pro and only wanted “big people” spoons and forks. She eats like a champ now at 2, no more messy floors, and she finishes almost all her food at every meal without my assistance cause of this. It’s not lazy, it’s helps build confidence and motor skills.

If she needs help with something, obviously yea I’d help but a baby being able to feed themselves is actually great developmentally

My boy likes to feed himself but he takes forever. So I let him do a few bites and then I feed him a few. He actually won’t eat for me unless he has a spoon and can give him some himself.

She is supposed to be feeding herself. We did baby led weaning my daughter has fed herself since 6 months (with support). Your family needs to be educated.

There’s nothing wrong with her feeding herself?? That’s such a weird thing to be judgement about 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 the only time I fed my son at that age was when he was eating something like soup or if it was something really messy and we had to go somewhere after he ate - just to save myself from the extra clean up. Otherwise he’s been feeding himself since we introduced solid foods around 6-7 months.

My daughter gets all her food put on her high chair tray and she eats on her own with her hands and a spoon. She’s been doing this for many months now and she’s 14 months. She makes HUGE messes at each meal but it’s okay because that’s how she learns. Also different textures are great for kids to feel.
