Looking for a little guidance
My youngest daughter is almost 2 and she showing strong signs of being on the spectrum and does not show any interest in speaking. Her doctor tells us to be patient, that all kids develop at a different pace, and they don't want to diagnose to quickly. (I understand all of these notions.)
However, I am also an educator and I am familiar with the signs. I also know that girls typically take longer to diagnose and this discrepancy causes a huge lag in effective intervention. So, I want to be proactive. We taught baby sign language as many parents do and she uses it consistently to communicate her wants and needs. She signs every communication with the family. However, now that speaking may not be her chosen form of communication I would like to begin teaching her ASL so she can communicate effectively and so she has a way to voice what she is thinking and feeling now. She has so much to say and just needs a way to say it.
I have searched for online resources and apps to help me through the process of teaching her to sign, but keep coming up empty handed.
Can any of you please point me in the right direct to get started?
Thank you in advance for helping me help my baby live as normal a life as possible!
