Would you buy your significant other a gift if you know he's not buying you anything?

He's pretty selfish and all for himself and I'm wondering if I should even bother getting him anything. I know he's not getting me anything. Didn't get me anything for on birthday.

I was in the same situation. I was with someone who pretty much didn’t have a care for getting gifts and didn’t even get me a card for my birthday yet on his I got him an expensive gift. I would say maybe get him something small if you’re the type of person who would get them a gift anyway but don’t splash out on him if they don’t give the same energy back

You shouldn't give gifts with the expectation of getting one back. My dad is lie your SO. he's not a gift giver and doesn't ever remember to get anyone anything ever. I still get him gifts because I enjoy it. I wouldn't feel obligated to get him anything so if you don't want to you don't do it

If you’re gifting on the fact of how much you expect someone else to gift you, you shouldn’t be gifting at all.  You should be giving someone else joy because it makes your heart warm, not because you expect them to give you something in return. 
People have made Christmas to be just about how many presents they get and how expensive they are and it’s really sad. This is a time to be thankful of what you have, no matter how small, and to share with one another. A lot my family doesn’t exchange gifts for this reason. Yes Ofcourse receiving a gift feels lovely but it’s the time spent with loved ones, that you cherish the most. Not everyone has that or can afford to give. To be able to give without reciprocation is what matters. 
It’s a time to be selfless.

I do but he is very grateful and we are doing presents for each other this year but if he is being selfish I wouldn’t bother just let him know your going to treat yourself this year 🛍

I don’t understand why you’re with him then? 
Last Christmas, my wife and I agreed not to exchange gifts because we were broke af but I ended up getting her a little something because I felt bad having a giftless Christmas. But if I felt my partner was ridiculously selfish I wouldn’t even consider being with them let alone getting them a Christmas gift.

I always get him a gift but I never know what to get. Plus sometimes he randomly gets me something really expensive and I feel bad I can't afford to get him something. Yes I know it isn't about the money but I feel like it would be a good gesture.
