Break up but still live together..

Have any of ya'll ever been broken up with your spouse but still live together? How does it work? My boyfriend and I are on the brink but we have a daughter and we rent a house together, I also have so much stuff here that it's pretty much impossible to move into anywhere else, unless it's my own place which I cannot afford atm. Have any of you been through this? Any advice? Tips? I feel like it'll be super weird but idk maybe we can be friends and be better off? Sigh..
