Is it a "phase"?

Question

So my boyfriend and I met in highschool, grade 9, and actually didn't start dating until grade 11. We have now been together for 3 years this October.

​I really love him, and would do anything for him! He makes me happy and just, he is almost perfect except for a few immaturity flaws, and laziness.

​Lately, I have been thinking about "hooking up". Like I would never, ever cheat on him. I could not crush him like that, but I can help but think about what it would be like to just "hook up" with another guy or two. I don't want to dump my boyfriend I love him very much.

​Am I just going through a phase? What should I do?

The difference between people who are faithful and cheaters is not the absence of temptation. Sometimes even the most committed people are tempted to stray from their partners. Resisting temptation is what makes your character strong and trust me, it reinforces your relationship way more than any amount of sex or romance. Conversely, experimenting with other partners and "hooking up" can and often does lead to a habit of dissatisfaction and cheating within relationships. Cheating and hooking up for the first time can often be just like that first cigarette or hit. It's a destructive habit.

​I'd suggest redirecting your curiosity toward experimenting more WITHIN your own sex life and relationship with your boyfriend :)

No matter who you are with there is always going to be temptation eventually! Don't leave him because of this. Married people who are faithful have temptations but stop them in the tracks. Totally normal for you to think that way, but it isn't a sign that he isn't "right" for you!

I'd say if you want to hook up or you are worried about what you might be missing then he isn't the one for you. How I knew I wld marry my husband is when I didn't think about the what ifs and I knew he was the only one! I'd say take a break date around, if yall are ment to be then it will be :)

Imo, don't leave/hook up until you find someone else you feel totally Omgwowzahs about :p I was in a relationship in highschool up until first 2 months of college. Almost 4 years, and I too had that feeling of well, kinda boredom really. So in college I met my omgwowzahs guy :p I fellhard and deeply in love! He was so different from my highschool boyfriend, and after talking it over and over with friends, I broke up w highschool boyfriend and started a rel. ship with college boyfriend. In nivember we'll be together for 8 years and I'm 5,5 wks preggerswith our second baby :) Do what your heart tells you, but don't leave the old until you find smth new!

I agree with Hannah. It's normal to find other people attractive, but if you get this feeling that you're curious about what else is out there, it might be worth exploring. I was with my first boyfriend for nearly 6 years, then began feeling like something was missing, even though I cared about him very much. I left him and went through many dating ups and downs, then almost 3 years ago I met the guy I decided I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself!
