Sleep help?

Question

Baby has always been a great sleeper. Since about 4 months sleeping threw the night..5-6...he's now 8 months and has been crying in his sleep. And waking up multiple times wants bottle when he didn't have night-time feeds for a while. To stop him from crying we have to pick him up wake him so he snaps out of it.   After that if we put him back down he goes right to sleep. He tossing and crying in sleep more than he ever did as a newborn. Help?

My son has gone through phases of this. They say night terrors and night mares don’t start till they are older (18 months plus) but I don’t believe it. 
This started happening for us around 8-9 months and last about a month and a half. It happened again around 19 months and lasted about 2 months and was the worst. If we could get him to wake up out of the crying fit, it took a few snuggles and he was back to sleep no problem. But if we couldn’t get him out of the crying fit only nursing would do.
