Why can't I dress up?

I got my toddler a beautiful dress and she loves dresses! I made some pictures that turned out so nice. My MIL did say it was beautiful but you can only wear something like that to a wedding even for a birthday it was too much. Seriously, the woman runs in sneakers and jeans and I love to dress my girl up just because sometimes, just like I love my dresses. Why I had to justify myself to this woman I don't know, she made it sound like I was doing something wrong. How do you respond to that?

You don't respond to it. You keep dressing your child how you want to dress her! Life's too short wear all the dresses!

If my daughter can go out in her hand-me- down monster pj's your daughter can go out in her princess dresses (that's what we call them).  
Doctor appointment? Princess Dress. 
School? Princess Dress.  
Rainy day in the house? Princess Dress. 
Apocalypse? Princess Dress.

You actually don’t have to justify yourself. You can ignore people like that, or you can put them in their place.

As hard as it is, just ignore it.  I might say something like "well I think she looks cute."  My husband's aunt is always telling me my baby is spoiled with clothes because she's got so many and yes, it bothers me, but I do my best to let it go.  I love to dress up my daughter in cute outfits and as mothers, we have that right.  They can all just deal with it.  You dress your girl however you want and enjoy it!

I just ignore these kinds of comments 😄i too love dressed up and took some beautiful pictures with my kiddos and yes ppl do say something like that but I totally ignore that.... live your life mumma no one have a right to stop you😘😘

Don’t justify yourself. Say thanks for your opinion but that is my daughter so I wanted to and move on. Or just ignore and move on. You are the mom!

You don’t. You live your life and she lives her. Just ignore it. If it’s out of hand and a backhanded compliment or degrading, speak to your partner about it and get them involved to stop. 
Also, if she’s being nasty then don’t include her in receiving them. My MIL never gets pics of my daughter bc she’s a witch. You reap what you sow. 
But it sounds like she’s just saying something to say something and you need to brush this off.
