This is an example in the news of a PSW who has said demeaning things about residents of a long term care home she works at on TikTok. Should employers be able to terminate an employee for actions like this?

Yes. Your actions are a reflection of your employer. Things like sexism, racism, jokes about rape, the disabled, etc. should not be tolerated. If I were an employer I would never keep someone around that was making derogatory remarks like that.

Yes. EVERYONE in healthcare knows talking about patients on social media or to other people is an absolute NO-NO! We are taught it in school and it is reiterated on the job. Doing this is not only disrespectful and immoral, but blatant disobedience. So if anyone in the healthcare field does this or anything similar and loses their job, they already knew they were going to lose their job.

how can anyone purposefully make tiktoks, mocking the elderly residents they have a duty of care for, and expect no backlash from their work?
I think, as a minimum these people should be investigated. but yeah I have no issue with companies firing people under these circumstances

You represent your workplace. If you post shit that goes against their values, they have the right to dismiss you. If you don’t want to get fired for doing or saying something stupid, either don’t do or say something stupid or make sure your profile is private and that you limit who you’re friends with on social media.
If it came out that Johnny in charge of HR was posting racist and sexist shit on his Facebook, chances are he doesn’t have the capacity to be unbiased in his job and shouldn’t retain that position.

If someone is being racist or trashy online, I WILL fire someone without looking back. Especially if they have mine and my husband's business on their "work" info online. I am generally the person hiring and terminating people. I've terminated people for less. Don't post stupid shit online. YES we care 100%. You are a reflection of us, represent us how we represent you. Especially since we pay a more than fair wage, I EXPECT our employees to be handling their social media's appropriately. 
If a company is treating you and others like trash tho, I personally feel as if it's your right to share how a company made you/others feel. How are companies going to change their ways to good business practice otherwise. Bullying. Lol! #treatemployeesright #treatemployersright

I’m not allowed in public bars (or really anywhere but bars are a big one) in my work attire. I’m not allowed to post my work attire and ANYTHING that might reflect badly on the establishment. I’m not allowed to talk shit about my establishment, coworkers, or guests on social media. It’s in my employee handbook. So I know I could be fired for it. 
But honestly it shouldn’t have to be in any kind of handbook to know you shouldn’t reflect badly on the place you want to work.
