Do you believe in polygraph exams/lie detector tests?

Question

I was trying to research about lie detector tests and what I’ve found was that it’s said to be around 80-90% useful and that if someone isn’t nervous they could easily pass while some other people that take one may have anxiety which could make them fail even if they’re innocent. I’ve even read that if someone may be a sociopath or a psychopath they could even pass due to feeling no guilt.

To an extent sure they may work. But if I’m going to base everything on it then no.
Honestly I know I’d fail one on things I could 100% be honest about solely because being put on the spot just fucks with me. I hate feeling interrogated.

No, they cannot be used in court. Ted Bundy passed it, and he was guilty AF. 
I think they can have their place, but I’m very glad they’re not admissible.

We have a CIA agent in our family and he's said they are inaccurate and can not be used in court.

I don’t think they’ll always be 100% accurate of course. They aren’t perfect. But they have to use what’s available haha and it’s something at least 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s actually the way the cops found out my rapist had sexually assaulted two minors. He was asked if he had ever had sex with a minor and failed that part… it all went downhill for him from there.

They are hit or miss. It's definitely known that you can learn to be calm enough to pass one. I had to take one for work (I typically support DoD organizations in some capacity), and although I tend to be an anxious person in new situations, I felt the administration of the test was conducted well to get a CURRENT baseline of how my body was reacting to then compare to my responses when answering questions.

My friends husband is a cop and told us once they’re so easy to throw off that they’re not an accurate tool. Most times they’re just used as a scare tactic.

I'm not sure to be fair, I would never pass a polly test because I am such a nervous wreck and have a stammer when I'm put under pressure, but I know they have lead to correct imprisonments and admission to guilt, but also how many false admissions have they put out how many people have pleaded guilty just because they now thought they didn't stand a chance? Idk good in theory but there's no way they can 100% be effective
