Do I need to give money to my husbands children?

Theoretical question we were discussing the scenario with my friends. But let’s say a husband and a wife are business owners. She owns more of it than he does. He has two kids from his previous marriage and they have two children together. Once they’re ready to retire, she wants her part of the business to be split between her biological children (2 of their children) and he can split his part of the business between all of his biological children (all of his 4 children). In that case, the two children they have together will get more business ownership than the children from his previous marriage. Should it be split equally 4 ways or should the wife get to give her part of the business to her children?

Yes. Because if they make it that far into a relationship/marriage, it shouldn’t be “his kids”, “her kids”, etc. it should ALL be THEIR kids.

Obvi my step children are family and I don’t treat em any different but my bio kids will inherit everything I have 🤷🏽‍♀️ my step children have their mom and my kids have me. My SO obvi would share his $$ between ALL of his bio children but I don’t see why I’d be taking care of their moms responsibility tbh

I think it depends on the age of the children when the marriage happened. I will inherit more from my parents than my half siblings. I’m my mom’s only kid and my dad’s fifth kid. When they married, my brothers were both adults and one was already married himself. One sister was a senior and the other was a freshman but lived with her mom and almost never visited. Mom didn’t help raise any of them and she doesn’t consider them her kids anymore than they consider her a step mom. She’s just dad’s wife to them.

Maybe I’m the odd one out but I don’t necessarily think that it even corresponds to who is your biological child. When passing down a family business, you also have to take into consideration who is interested in the family business. Your step child could be someone who has worked hard in the business while your other child could be someone who has dreams elsewhere. To me, inheriting a business is completely different than inheriting an estate or your finances once you have passed.

Id split it evenly. Completely even. While technically on paper you might have more than your husband to me it would be 1 whole business  and you have 4 children so each child has 1/4th

Personally, if I remarried and have step kids, I hope I'd treat them as my own and the business could be split evenly for the kids who'd want to even keep up with it. Out of 4 kids, do they really all want to be a part of owning a business? If only one wants the business they should buy out the other siblings at the very least, but originally split 4 ways.

It really depends on the type of relationship/how long they've been in your family. My mom has been married many times. With her current husband they are adults and one wont even talk to either of them. If there's no mutual work to be a part of the family then I don't consider you family 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'm cynical since I've had so many step siblings 🤣 I also don't expect anything from my parents.

I would see them all as my children BUT we don’t know your relationship with the children, at what age you entered their life because if it was when they’re older your maybe didn’t help raise them as they’re grown. 
I would want to split it equally if I helped raise his two children and viewed them as my own and my relationship with them was good regardless. 
If I didn’t and there is animosity there then I would give my half to my biological children. 
It depends on your situation.
