My brother in law and his gf just had a baby, we went to go visit a few days ago, i noticed a few things where i wanted to respectfully mention, but didn’t want to feel like i’m over stepping. I noticed they let the baby sleep in a doc-a-tot in his bassinet, and also have a few loose blankets laying on top the doc-a-tot and on top of the baby. my mil has made a few comments about how safe sleep now a days is BS. and how she used to just throw the babys in their crib with a blanket and also co slept since pretty much infancy, and also seems to be pushing that on them. i want to say something, maybe they just don’t know? this is their first baby. but then again i feel like it’s not my place. but then againnn god forbid something happens that was preventable…

I just went through this with a friend and I reaaaaally didn’t want to overstep but they took it well. I just said “I know new parents get so much different information thrown at them and I don’t want to add to the noise, but did your doctor talk to you about the Back to Sleep campaign when your baby was born? In the past few years there have been a lot of studies done about the safest sleeping conditions for babies and a lot of it goes against the advice that was given to our parents’ generation.”
That way they can either say, yeah we’ve heard about it but we’re happy with the way we’re doing things, or they can say no but we’ll look into it on our own, or they can say no can you tell me more about it. If they want you to give them more info then you can give specific examples, and if they don’t then you’ve done what you could and the rest is up to them!

Asleep? Or do they actually put the baby in it to sleep
At night while they are also sleeping ? There’s a difference in my opinion.

I would definitely  talk about the bassinet because if that's actually been recalled then you can just say hey did you guys know about this.
As for the co-sleeping everybody has their opinions and there's been a lot of false propaganda in America surrounding it so my advice to you would be mind your own business on that one ...they still have the right to make thier own choices as parents. co-sleeping happens all across the world so this is not something that you can expect parents to share your beliefs in and they are not directly hurting thier own baby so I would leave that one alone  because that opinion just becomes parent shaming. Just say do all your research and move on

I'd definitely say something to them just to be safe so nothing happens 😁 just tell them its unsafe and you just want them to beware of safe sleep and to also look it up & ask babies doctor

Honestly, I wouldn’t say anything. It’s the parents choice as far as sleeping arrangements for their baby are concerned. During the day I used to let my little have blankets and stuffed animals then at night when she wasn’t as supervised in her crib I’d make sure there were no loose items. We started co sleeping after a year and my husband and I love it ❤️ I’ve read article after article on the pros and cons of both and we made the right decision for our family. Ultimately you aren’t responsible for that child, the parents are.

Of course you're not sure what to do but everyone is right, you should and while you're at it, also mention that co-sleeping is dangerous as well.

There have been infant deaths in dockattot. This is one of the items that does not pass safety standards. Infants have died even while being supervised. Asked her to look into Safe Infant Sleep-Evidence-Based Support Group on Facebook. They have updated information and recalls on items. They are currently working on getting all these unsafe items of the market because of the amount of infant deaths. If you can save a mom grief let them know.
