When should I test?

I wasn’t sure which group to post this in so if it doesn’t belong here, I apologize, let me know and I’ll move it!

I’m not really sure what my question even is… Okay so I had a baby about 8 months ago and I’m breastfeeding and haven’t had a period yet. Without a period, I have no idea where I’m at in my cycle? I’m not ttc but I have a weird feeling that I should take a test... I just did and it just wasn’t as clear as I was hoping. So I guess I’m asking how to know if I should be taking a test without a period to not show up or something.
