Why is daycare so expensive

Question

Maybe it’s because I’m working my ass off as a single mom and living pay check to paycheck but nothing pisses me off more than my sons daycare requiring me to pay them for the two weeks my son had to quarantine and wasn’t able to go to daycare because one of their employees tested positive for COVID. And their reasoning for requiring me to pay them the tuition is because they didn’t give his spot away….

At my dance if it’s closed for COVID related reasons we get a discount.
The reason you have to pay is to keep the doors open. The daycare still needs to pay rent, hydro, water, gas, staff, maintenance ect…if you need you child’s school to stay afloat that’s unfortunately the only way.
As to why it’s so expensive….child care is undervalued as a female dominated profession. It’s also a “women’s issue” if men couldn’t go to work because they had children to care for you know child care would have been universal to begin with.

Check into daycare vouchers. In my state you qualify for assistance with childcare costs if you’re under a certain income.

Childcare is so expensive which is what keeps me from using them. They charge way too much especially if the place is crappy. Paying weekly is absurd and think it should be a flat rate monthly.

Our government meant and daycare centers exploit TF out of parents.
One place seriously quoted me 1600 a month for part time for 1 child……. For my other they wanted 1235 per month…. So in total for 2 kids a month 2835….. got me all types of fucked up because I’m not doing it.

My son goes to daycare full time and we spend $1400 a month. I see parents bring two kids and I’m like how the hell are you affording this? Just one kid is ridiculously expensive. I don’t have family close by to help but I had to go back to work. I was home with him for 6 months before that and I loved it. Bored at times but I miss those days. 
Childcare in America is a joke. This is why fewer people are having kids. I’ve always wanted to be a mom and wouldn’t have it any other way but I completely understand peoples choice to not want kids and they don’t need to explain as to why they don’t want kids.

It’s expensive to operate, and our society doesn’t care to subsidize childcare. 
I definitely recommend looking at income-based assistance in your state. It wouldn’t change whether you pay, but it may decrease your rate.
