Ack! I completely forgot to mention:HSLDA.org(Homeschool legal defense association) This is an, extremely, important resource. You don't have to join them, but I'd recommend it. At the very least, go through the HSLDA site for information pertaining to homeschool legislation and How-to legally homeschool in your state. Also, seek out similar associations that are *state-specific*. HSLDS is a national organization.I'm in CA and we homeschooled by filing an R4. Essentially, I created a private school. Some states have hybrid approaches, e.g. homeschool-friendly charter schools. These are *public* schools, but allow more flexibility. Just know that your work/effort teaching your children will be used to bolster public school numbers. Some people don't care about this, others do. So, I'm throwing it into the mix, in case it makes a difference to you.

I've been homeschooling for about a year and a half now. My daughter is 8 and in the second grade. We dont follow a curriculum but we do have 6 workbooks that cover all the subjects. Math, reading, science, critical thinking and writing/editing! I'm in Texas!Look into the teacher stores near you, that's where I found the books. As far as a curriculum, I'll probably invest for 3rd grade.

Do you not have to follow a specific curriculum for it to be recognized by the state?

I homeschooled 3 children, and will be homeschooling my 4th, when he's old enough.By far I loved AmblesideOnline.org as an overall curriculum. This is a free curriculum based on Charlotte Mason's approach to Classical education.I would, also, check out:SimplyCharlotteMason.com (a less rigid approach to Classical education)TJED.org -Thomas Jefferson Education/Leadership Education. This incorporates tenets of a child-led approach, while encouraging both parents and children to learn, grow. There's a strong emphasis on discernment, understanding and HOW to think vs. what to think.Sandra Dodd.com is about radical unschooling. It's an approach worth looking into. It can definitely help with a paradigm shift of how children learn/what learning looks like, especially, if you're used to the typical in-class, in-seat approach. If you, already, have kids in school and are starting by pulling them out and/or after summer break. Take time to learn about and implement DEschooling (not to be confused with Unschooling). This is a time for your child(ren) and you to rediscover their joy and the innate desire and love to learn that all children have.If your child is young - toddler or preschool age checkout both Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. I'm a big fan of a hybrid of these two. I would, also, stay away from online or virtual school programs as they tend to require a lot of on screen time (e.g. computer system needs to log 4 to 6 hours of active time per day for the day to count).Let me know if you have questions!

The good & the beautiful is AMAZING!! For anything that’s not math or language arts we use the fun schooling books! We’re in Oregon.

Yes it is Christian based, the levels are all a grade ahead of public school. In Oregon there is no approved curriculum, you can do whatever you want. They test for the state at the end of 3rd, 5th & I think 7th?

Is this a Christian program you’re talking about? Is it recognized by the state?
