Roblox, do you let your kids play?

I keep hearing about this game… idk if it’s true. They have sex rooms and gang rapes in the park??? Links to porn… does anyone have any insight? My kids play and I’ve never observed anything out of the ordinary but I keep hearing stuff so idk I need to look into it further. Want to hear people’s opinions

So the “gang rape” thing happened once in 2018. It was a hack that had been since fixed. As for the sex rooms - yes, there are a small subset of people who used this as a way to get together with others in the BDSM community during lockdowns. They’re not looking to invite your kids. It’s a pretty private thing and nowhere near worth the fearmongering that goes on. 
The chat is the main issue, bc what’s said can be read by just about anyone. There ARE parental controls on the game that block certain words, any links, and several other things.
With any game that connects immediately to the outside world, parents have to keep an eye on what goes on. This isn’t anything new. I remember being 11 and seeing the same stuff in the Ty Beanie Baby chats back in 1998-1999

My daughter plays Roblox, she’s 12. She plays on my MacBook and me and my husband monitor the game and computer. Honestly, it’s really sad this world has turned literally anything and everything into sex. Nothing is safe to our babies anymore 😞

My kids play all the time. They are actually playing right now.
Never seen anything of this nature happen when they play. They play games with their dad all day and their cousins who live in a different state.

Anything with access to online chat rooms is absolutely a hazard. You never know who is on there and if parents think that adults are going to leave their children alone because they’re children they’re sorely mistaken. 
I think the internet is a great resource, for adults. Children have no business on the internet. Mine are only 4 and 9 months so we haven’t gotten there yet but I will totally be a “mean mom” because they will not have smart phones or unrestricted access to the internet. 
The world is dark and scary and there’s just no reason to subject our children to that. It’s hard enough worrying about people in real life but that added stress of a predator getting into your home, to your child, via the internet? No thanks. Not worth it.

My mom won’t let my little sister play bc my SO niece was playing.. and she wanted me to get on with her. His niece is 11. And I’m 24.. well, getting on.. I noticed how disgusting it was! Kids would come up to me and roll play “slapping my ass” and etc!!! I told my mom bc my little sister is 8..  and now she’s not allowed back on it.

I’m not afraid to admit I play Roblox with my younger siblings sometimes and I have for a while, lol. I haven’t heard of any of the things you’re describing, I’ve always felt Roblox is a pretty kid friendly game. That doesn’t mean it’s perfectly safe though, it’s an online game so people can chat with each other if they want. 
Another one that I’ve noticed a lot of inappropriate conversation on is Among Us. There’s a chat right in the game where people are frequently asking other players to be their boyfriend/girlfriend, asking for their number/address and being extremely sexual and inappropriate. I always report those people when I see them but there’s just too many that do it. Once you exit those games those in-game chats are gone, so I would steer clear of that one until your child is old enough to understand that we don’t give out personal information like that to strangers online.

I am a cyber school teacher and during our lesson about digital citizenship, the stories they shared with me about Roblox was scary. Of the 25 kids, at least half said they had their profiles “hacked” and started telling me all these stories. One shared that he had a “friend” who he gave him username and password to and the person took all his stuff. I teach 5th grade. My son is too young for these games, he’s 4.5 and just got a tablet for Christmas, but when he is old enough IF he plays this it will be heavily monitored by my husband or I. Honestly, it’s probably going to be a no.

I don’t only bc my little sister used to be on Roblox and there was older men on there that would say extremely inappropriate things to her as young as 7 years old. I feel like if it’s something I have to monitor constantly, she doesn’t need to play it. To be fair though, my kids only 4 and doesn’t have much interest in it after I told her no.

i personally have never played it but i have seen and heard of some inappropriate things happening on there. i guess it’s pretty common for the guy characters to start sexual conversations with the girl characters or ask to be in an online virtual relationship with them on the platform. on another note, it’s a super popular game that lots of people enjoy playing and appear to have lots of fun on. i would just monitor what your kid is doing and who they’re chatting to, just like you would do with most things involving internet activity.
