What type of schooling is better for kids

Question

I grew up in public schools which I think are horrible especially when our education   is based on funding from the state. Im am wondering if you either attended private school or home school and tell me your views on which you think is better?  Which one would you send your kids to?

I had no problems when I went back in terms of education. I had a good ciriculum and mom took it serious that I did my work every day. I graduated 12th out of 89 students(small school!). Socially I never developed close friendships like I feel my peers did. However I have a wonderful marriage and husband where my girlfriends who I was in public school with don't. I don't know if that plays a factor or not. I take relationships 10x more seriously than they do. They could have a argument with other girls and get over it and still be best friends. I can't really do that. I'm not sure if that has to do with not having peers in those critical years or not.

I was homeschooled from 2nd-6th grade. I turned out okay.. But other kids who were homeschooled around me their parents didn't take it seriously and they suffered. You have to be VERY disciplined with it. My husband is a basketball coach and so our kids will go to public school. Socially, personally, I needed school.. I needed other kids. If you have a set up where they will be around peers.. Many peers.. Homeschooling could be a good thing. Depends on the situation.

I've moved around a lot and been to mostly private schools all my life. I think it depends on what country you're in. In South Africa theres a big difference between the quality of work produced by public school kids compared to private school kids. Private schools have a more challenging curriculum and are thus taught more and tend to struggle far less in university. Public school kids have to learn how to do things private school kids had already learnt. But it must really differ in other countries.

I was homeschooled and enjoyed it, I felt like I did learn a lot and at my own pace. I'm still on the fence between homeschooling my future children and putting them in public school though.

I would use a public school. I was raised in public school. I have friends who went private, and they were so sheltered that they went crazy with their first dose of freedom. Same with homeschoolers, but with more social anxiety. I think it's good to have the social challenges and temptations that public school allows. As for the education, that needs to be supplemented at home no matter where the kids go.

This past summer a crap load of kids that were homeschooled graduated with honours and with excellent grades. One girl graduated college at 16 i believe it is and her sister at 18. I guess it just depends on how smart the parent is?
