What did native Americans do to survive tornados?

I am getting mad because I keep finding these questions asked online and can’t find anything but “I would like to know as well!”

I live in Oklahoma, we get tornados often. I posted about the big one that destroyed Moore in 2013 earlier today and I’ve just been on a tornado binge. I found out about the 1997 jerrell texas tornado and how it was a “dead man walking.” Which is when the tornado has multiple vortex’s and shapes itself into this.

According to Native American legend. If you see the dead man walking, you’re going to die. Which I think was just a way to get people to know that if you see this you needed to mf RUN and take shelter. This particular tornado devastated jarrel texas and took life, it was an F5 that made history.

But I am seriously wondering now. What did native Americans do to survive tornados? Does anyone know? The only thing I’ve really found is that they moved away during tornado season. But this is Oklahoma and we had a tornado on Christmas not too long ago and that is definitely not tornado season. So what did they do when one of those unexpected tornados came?
