Does an employer have to disclose that an employee has committed a serious sexual crime? I've just found out that one of my colleagues went to jail, convicted of assault with intent to rape and aggravated burglary. This was a extremely premeditated, disturbing and obsessive crime.. and he is brother of my boss. I've been told by someone that doesn't work there anymore and has shown me solid proof. Some of the women in the office have commented that he is staring at them and creeping them out and now I'm starting to stress as i know I'm the only employee who knows this information and feel stuck as I feel the other ladies have a right to know so they can be mindful.
Does an employer need to disclose something like this?
I feel like it's not my business to say anything but I'm also torn because, especially considering the circumstances surrounding the crime, I wouldn't want something to happen to someone else.
What should I do? I think I'm going to quit soon anyway but still feeling so torn on whether I should make the other ladies aware.
Edit - we have no HR or similar, it's a small business and I don't believe a HR role is mandatory in Australia. This is my bosses brother, I have no higher ups I can go to about this.
