Adjusted age for development?

We had our twins preemie at 34 weeks via emergency section, they spent a couple of weeks in neonatal unit before coming home and are currently 9 weeks and doing really well and gaining weight nicely. 
I was wondering about how the prematurity affects development. I know they were 6 weeks early so effectively their adjusted age is only 3 weeks, but is this for all things development wise or will they catch up on some things? Have noticed we’re already a little behind on some things like smiling etc bless them, so was just curious about what to expect 🥰

Like someone else said, by 2yr they should be “developmentally” on track. My 34wk was delayed in gross motor (sat unassisted 8months, didn’t crawl until 10.5 months, walked 15months) and speech was extremely delayed (only saying 3 words by 2yrs old). We did early intervention and she’s still in speech therapy at 6yrs. Every kiddo is different though - I have two friends who also had kids at 34 wks, 1 had zero delays and the other was just a little behind in gross motor. My daughter is healthy and super strong at 6yrs though- however she’s also super petite (3% weight).

My son was born 7 weeks early and he’s on track with his developments so far. My son is doing well. Our pediatrician says he’s’ on track.  Every baby is different with milestones. Trust me the smiles will come out of nowhere.

Or pediatrician used adjusted age until two years old.  He was born 8 weeks early and while he hit some milestones early, some would have been considered delayed for his non-adjusted age but were actually right on schedule for his adjusted age.

My daughter was born 5 weeks early and spent a week in the nicu. Some things while she was a baby she was behind on such as social milestones. We did figure it out that it is just her personality 😅. She is 18 months now and has a strong attitude these days. When we were in the nicu her doctor had told us that her milestone would be adjusted to fit her due date age. I hope that makes sense. With my daughter she was rolling by 5 months, crawling at 6 almost 7 months and was walking just after her first birthday. Now this is to her age and not adjusted age. 
As far as her weight and height goes she is in the 90th percentile for her age not adjusted as well. My husband is 6’5”. 
Every baby is different and if your twins fall a behind a little bit it is okay. By the time they are two to three they will be caught up on their milestones. Every baby is different so definitely don’t be hard on yourself. When your baby use are ready they will hitting the milestones in no time.
