Am I wrong?

So my boyfriend is trying to lease a new car & with his credit the payment would be $380, but if I co-signed for him it would be $297. At first I thought I’d do it for him, but I backed out last minute bc I worked hard to get my credit to 768. We have been together for 6 years and are about to have a baby together, but I’m really just scared something could go wrong. Like what if we end up separating after the baby comes, then I’m basically stuck in a bad position. I tried explaining it to him, but he just got pissed off and stopped talking to me. He was like you could’ve saved me $3000 for this lease blah blah.

Nope! I would not even consider such a thing for a boyfriend. He would need to be my husband first. Co-signing is a huge step… so is marriage.

He could have saved himself the money if he worked on bettering his credit before trying to get a loan for the car. This is on him, not you.

Absolutely you did the right thing. Never ever co-sign for a boyfriend or girlfriend. Especially if they have bad credit, it will drag yours down and their credit is poor for a reason. I made the mistake of co-signing on furniture with my ex-fiance. We were getting married, expecting a baby, and just got a new house. Our relationship did not work out and he rarely makes payments on the loan. My credit dropped by a 100 points, and almost 50 points JUST from the co-sign alone. Don't do it. It's been years and I still have the loan on my credit and get calls from the credit collectors.

I wouldn't do SHIT like that for a boyfriend. My now husband wanted me to cosign back before we were married and I refuse. MOST relationships don't work out.

You’ve been together 6 years and have a little one on the way so I don’t care much about the fact that he’s your boyfriend and not your husband. Not everyone gets married. The ring doesn’t make them stay🤷🏻‍♀️ 
I wouldn’t do it simply because it’s not a smart move. He doesn’t need to lease a vehicle right now. He needs to improve his credit and get a reliable, cheap, safe vehicle for the time being until he can afford it without asking for help.

Absolutely not! If he wants to save money he can buy a used care for much less. That is way too big of a step to take with anyone you're not married to.
