Multiple talent agents?

My child is beginning in this industry and I know it’s slow at first. Someone told me she may be better off to go with multiple agents instead of just one. Is this allowed?? They said for instance since we have an agent in TN we can have one in Ky, Alabama, texas. Is this correct or does it go by regions if so how are talent regions even divided?

Typically agents will be exclusive in a specific region. But you can have multiple as long as they don’t compete with or conflict with each other. But make sure she’s booking in the region where you are first. It’s hard to manage multiple agents so when you are ready to expand go slow but steady. One region at a time. I recommend getting an agent that books in Georgia as one of your early moves. There’s tons of work there and it’s easier to break into than LA or NY. But be prepared. Most regional jobs will expect you to work local hire which means you have to be ready to travel at a moments notice. They expect you to be able to get to fittings and bookings etc just as easily as someone who actually lives there (that’s true of every market). But fortunately lots of auditions, at least early rounds, are done on tape now.
