Seasonal union workers and home loan questions ?

So my husband is a member of a union, we do contract jobs for a company that last a month to 6 months then it might be months before we get another job It really varies a lot because of so many things. We always do well and haven’t missed payments or anything, it’s just the way the work goes. It’s not a steady job.

Recently trying to get a home loan but we’ve had some serious struggles with lenders understanding what we do, has anyone else experienced this and have suggestions? I’m wondering if maybe there’s specific companies that work with this kind of workers that might be better to deal with.
