Big and Breech -update

Edit: hey all, I just wanted to thank you for your encouragement again. Baby was delivered by C section on his due date in the end, and it was probably a good thing he was because the cord was wrapped THREE times around him. That might have been why they couldn't turn him by ECV even though he was flip flopping between breech and transverse. He prob would've gone into fetal distress because of the cord during birth (like my first) and given his size (4.22kg) as well, the chances of an emergency C section were very high. Anyway the planned c sec was very calm and the healing process hasn't been too bad so all in all I'm thankful for the way things turned out.

Sighs... I guess I just wanted to get this off my chest. I was asked to go in for an extra scan on Monday coz baby crossed the 97th percentile by fundal height. That's the cut off for a big baby and they wanted to confirm this with a scan. And yes, he's big. In the 98th percentile, estimated 3.5kg (+-0.5kg) at 36 weeks. That's my daughter's birthweight!

Anyway, they also found out that he's breech, head up legs down. We tried turning him yesterday (external cephalic version) but he's not budging.

In conclusion, big and breech = C section. They're trying to find me a date around 39 weeks right now to make a provisional booking.

I suppose I was hoping that with this being the second time, there was a much higher chance of a natural birth. Esp since even if the waters break early, I get to wait a little longer for contractions to start naturally in the UK than was the case in Belgium, where I was induced quite early on.

In a way, a planned C section is a relief because it takes a lot of the uncertainty out of the picture. But yeah... I was hoping I could experience a natural birth, the whole primal nature of it. I suppose I didn't realise how much I wanted it until the chances were drastically reduced so I'm feeling a bit disappointed and deflated.

But oh well, he'll come out happy and healthy and thats the most important thing. And I'm still revising the notes/book on natural birth anyway, yknow, in case the stars align.
