Can you exchange baby clothes for store credit?

I was very lucky to have had a baby shower of my own, one at my work and one at my husbands work, but even though we gave everyone our registry, we only got maybe 4 or 5 items from it and the rest is all baby clothes. So many that we have too many and won’t use them all (most are 0-3 months and some are the wrong size/type for what the weather will be). And I know you need a lot of clothes but I know you don’t need THIS many. I used to be a live-in nanny for a newborn for the first year of life and she never used nearly this many clothes.

Will stores give you credit to exchange for other items without a receipt? Some people ripped off the tags completely, I don’t know why, but we will just keep those ones I guess. Please don’t rip off the tags when gifting baby clothes.

We don’t really have the money to buy much left on our list since neither of us gets paid leave from our jobs. It’s looking more and more like we either won’t have some essentials or we will both have to go back to work within 2 weeks of the baby being born.

What should we do??
