My experience was awful. It was put in in the evening and I was barely dilated. Getting it put in wasn't awful, and the first couple hours were okay. By 4 hours in it began to get really uncomfortable and I had to get some pain meds. By 8 hours, I began to feel sick like I was going to throw up so I called the nurse in. While she went to get nausea meds, the foley ball shot out of me and I instantly felt better. I'm assuming the pain was so much that it was making me nauseous. It only dilated me to about 4 or 5 cm. They started pitocin after that. My baby ended up not coming out right so I ended up having a csection.
 I had a friend get induced a few weeks after me, and they used the med that is inserted up by the cervix and it is supposed to soften the cervix or something and she had great success with her delivery.
If I would have known better, I would have asked to try the inserted med over the foley bulb

I had it done in May. I started at 1cm and dilated to a 4 within 4 hours. It really wasn’t that painful at all. Just uncomfortable. They offered fentanyl for pain before I could get the epidural but I only used it once (it lasts an hour).

Felt odd getting it placed, but not painful in any way. Started things enough to avoid pitocin (I wanted to avoid this at all costs).

I had this done and it was super easy. I went in at 1 cm, they put it in (not super painful but definitely uncomfortable..similar to IUD insertion). Once it was in and filled, I couldn’t even feel it. They left it in for 2 hours and then took it out to start me on pitocin. Removing it didn’t hurt at all.. like removing a full tampon lol. Once they took it out I was 4cm and hardly even feeling my contractions. They started pitocin and I was chilling with pretty mild contractions until LO was born 5.5 hours later.

I had a foley bulb. I was only half a centimeter dilated so basically nothing at 39wks. It was painful in my experience. I had it done at night so I literally didn't sleep bcs of the pain. It had me groaning everytime it would inflate. By morning it was doable bcs it helped me dilate some. I had it in only for 12hrs bcs my nurse that I couldn't have it in longer then that. It never fell out bcs I didn't dilate much from it.
