New job right before maternity leave?

I’m stressing out a bit. I interviewed for a new position a while back and wasn’t expecting to get chosen. I’m 2 weeks away from going on maternity leave and just got hired to a new internal position. I am entitled to 12 weeks leave, but my new boss said to “think about options” and I don’t know how to reply?

Should I accommodate and come back after recovery (4-6 weeks)? Should I try to come back intermittently before leave ends? Not sure the best most professional way to reply

This is in the US, my job provides 12 weeks leave. It’s an office leadership position, option to work from home.

Any similar experiences? Advice?
