My mom says I’m over working myself but I think this is normal for newborn moms?
Not sure where to post this but I have a 3 week old baby and I haven’t been sleeping a lot. Nightly about 3 hours and then maybe one or two 1-hour naps during the day. My husband is back to work and our agreement is that I take the night shifts but when he gets home from work at 4pm and on weekends he’s on full baby duty or housecleaning duty, whichever I need more.
My mom keeps saying I’m doing too much and says she’s worried about how long I can keep doing this, and saying I should pump milk so my husband can give a bottle at night, but pumping takes time too that I could be sleeping. She says if I get sick I’ll need an extra supply. I don’t think she gets how difficult creating a milk stash is bc she sounds almost annoyed/frustrated that I don’t just do it, like I’m lazy for not doing it. Eventually I’ll do it but for now I think this is just how having a newborn baby is. I also take my baby from her when he shows early hunger cues and she says ‘do you really need to feed him right away? how do you know he’s actually hungry?’ I know bc I’ve spent so much time with him. And he has about 10 feedings/day which is between the 8-12 recommended feedings each day so I’m not over feeding him.
Isn’t this just how having a newborn baby goes? Lack of sleep, lots of feeding and consoling baby at night, etc.? I feel tired but I also think I’m doing a good job and my moms comments make me think I’m doing something wrong.
