Why did he lie to me

Why did my bf lie straight to my face ???

A few weeks ago, I saw on instagram old pictures of my boyfriend with another girl. His ex gf I guess. The pictures were of them cuddling and kissing and they were flirting in the comments. (This was hard for me to see. But I understand it’s the past .. so whatever. He’s with me now).

Anyway, I saw today actually that he’s friends with her on Facebook. Which is whatever. But I was curious to know if he still talks to her. So I asked him why he’s still friends with her and if they still talk ? And when I asked I said her name. Let’s call her “Haley”.

He looked me in the eyes and said “I’ve never dated a “Haley”….

I said what do you mean ? I know do you did. I was just curious to know if you still talk to her that’s all.

And he kept saying he never dated a Haley.

I didn’t even tell him about the pictures I saw. I just came upstairs to be alone. I just don’t know why he lied about it. I honestly just wanted to know if he still talks to her because I am uncomfortable being with someone that still talks to their ex.

But he lied about even dating her.

Why would he lie ???
