Art contest won by AI generated art
How do you feel about AI (Artificial Intelligence) winning contests?
A game designer entered some AI generated art into an art contest and won. It was entered in the Digital Art category which was defined as using "digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process."
Some people feel this is unfair. Some quotes per the article:
"This sucks for the exact same reason we don't let robots participate in the Olympics."
"This is the literal definition of 'pressed a few buttons to make a digital art piece', AI artwork is the 'banana taped to the wall' of the digital world now."
On the other hand, it sounds like there was significant human input and he put in quite a bit of hands-on effort to create the pieces. He fed his ideas (a victorian/space mashup) into the generator, then had to tweak the wording to adjust it to generate what he wanted. Then he used photoshop to edit the image, ran that result through another AI, then sent it to the printer to put on canvas.
Here is the resulting image.
