How long after birth did you pick up your toddler?

Currently 12 days PP and I have a 23 month old as well as other kids at home. I know they say don’t pick up the toddler when your leaving the hospital but for the whole 6 weeks of recovery? No way? Iv been feeling a lot better and Iv picked him up twice now but I have noticed each time I do I bleed more but nothing crazy. How long after recovery did you start picking up your toddler?

I had a 3 1/3 yr old when I gave birth, I did wait because I had 2nd degree internal and external tears. 2 layers of stitches. The surface stitches took 6 weeks to heal and the internal muscle layer of stitching took 8 weeks to heal. I didn't bend, squat, or lift anything heavier than baby during that time. I didn't want to risk ripping any stitches. It broke my heart at the time because I just kept thinking what if my last time picking her up was my *last time* picking her up 🥹 I was not prepared for that. Safe to say baby will be 1 on the 27th and my daughter is 4 1/2 now and I definitely still pick her up. We dance and twirl and sometimes she just wants to be held too ♥️

It actually has nothing to do with whether or not you had stitches or an easy delivery. It has to do with how weak your pelvic floor is after birth and can cause organ prolapse.

I carried my daughter the day I was released BUT I was released 3 days after delivery, had a simple vaginal delivery with no tears (other than cervix damage), and my toddler is under 20lbs. Plus, I hadn’t been able to carry my toddler for 8 weeks so I was eager to hold her! 
I did keep it to minimal carrying until day 7. 
If I had a C-section, tears, or a heavy toddler, I absolutely would’ve waited longer.

Immediately. I had tearing, stitches, and almost died from massive hemorrhaging and massive blood loss. I could barely stand and I still picked up our oldest daughter. I still held both of our daughters in my arms.

I had a planned c section but I picked up my son the day after I got released from the hospital. I didn’t see him for 3 days so I was missing him like crazy I couldn’t help it .
