I am a landlord
I am a landlord of a few properties that was settled through my divorce (my exes and I got a few).
Me and my partner have recently bought a joint venture and bought a block of flats. As I was in a severely violent relationship with no way out (my partner is aware) he suggested maybe looking into renting out half the properties and keeping half for domestic violence victims. Making it a home for familiea until they get on their feet which when I was in a violent relationship would have been the dream. I was a SAHM and he controlled every part of my life. So the flats would be free for a set amount of time.
I love love love the idea.
But every time we look into it the logistica of it working dont work out well. The flats all need renovating which we have had quoutes for anyway, getting them all up to code and that as well.
So insurance is beyond expensive (more than normal).
I am calling a charity about it and they are wondering whether we would need securoty which would obviously cost us a lot of money.
Just seems like hurdle after hurdle.
I feel like it is a great thing for us to do, I would hate for someone to be in the position we were in and I would have loved a better way out than a shelter as these are self contained flats, would be furnished as well.
Are we stupid for going down the charith route?
We would still obviously want to earn a profit, but it doesnt seem likely.
