How to communicate to friend that sending 95 minutes of voice memos is too much?

Help. I’m a mom of a toddler and I’m pregnant. My friend has 10 animals and a full time job and says she doesn’t have much time to text so she sends voice memos to and from work, I said that’s fine because they are only 5 minutes long and it’s hard to listen to anything longer than that with a toddler…then came Saturday and 95 minutes of voice memo and I can’t do this! I feel like I have to listen to it before I can tell her it’s too much but she’s talking about stuff that has upset her too. I’m stuck. I only get 2 hours to myself before bedtime because I’m so exhausted.

You don’t have to minimize your needs to fulfill someone else’s. You don’t need to compromise your character by lying to spare someone’s feelings. I would just be honest,“Hey, I’m really tired and won’t be able to listen to all of your message tonight. I’m sorry you’re upset, let’s plan a day where we can talk about it on the phone or meet up.” If she’s offended by that she isn’t a real friend.

I would not listen to that and I just wouldn’t respond. If she doesn’t even have time to shorten it and send a text, why does she think you have time to listen to all that? No one wants to listen to someone go on and on and on for that long.

That is a lot. I say just message her your tired cause the baby wore you out and your sorry she’s upset but maybe in a day or two you guys can chat on the phone or meet up and talk. I have a bestie that we’re currently 7,000 miles apart for the first time since we were kids and texting is our go to this last year. There’s times we send longggg text messages and neither of us have the time to sit down and read It everytime so we try and plan FaceTime/ phone calls to actually talk about stuff that we know would take hours on hours through messages & Snapchat. So I think your friend should understand and probably realize “DAMN I kept going like that IS a lot of voice messages”🤣 I’m sure if she’s your bestie she will understand no one has time for that, she probably was going off about whatever and lost track of time lol. It happens.
