Prune Juice for 3 Month Old???

My son (formula fed) has been passing really solid poops for a while now like they look like poops you’d expect to see from a baby that eats solids. He also only poops every two or three days. When he does poop you can tell he’s in pain. I just started transitioning him to enfamil gentlease neuro pro formula. 
My husband called our pediatrician and the pediatrician told us to give him 1oz of prune juice either by itself or with his bottle… i don’t know how i feel about this I thought babies weren’t supposed to have anything but formula/breast milk until 6 months old… 
Has anyone ever been told to do this? Has anyone ever given their 3 month old prune juice??

Three months old is fine to give them 1oz a day. Please listen to the advice of your pead and not unqualified people on an app. If your not sure about the advice you have been given, then look for someone who can give you a second opinion.

After 3 months it’s OK to give them 1 oz to help with constipation.

My pediatrician told us around 3 months to do the same. She said 1oz of prune juice and 1oz of water. He would not drink any of it lol.

If pediatrician is giving you the green light to do something I’d say it’s safe. I have heard of similar directions given by pediatricians to parents for babies.

I had the same sort of issue with my daughter for a bit when she was about that age and we used 1 oz room temp prune juice once a day for 3 days in a row until she was regular and using the Gentlease formula.

I wouldn’t be giving juice or anything other than milk to a 3m old. I would get a second opinion if you are skeptical. 
Tummy massages, warm baths help move things along.
