This is exactly how my husband feels, if I didn't know any better I'd say he wrote this 🤣. We value each other way too much to throw away what we have for anyone else. I think in order for 3somes to work and not harm the relationship (speaking only for non-polyamorous people), the couple has to be on this same level where they know that they are each other's priority and the 3some is just another fun adventure, it's not something that's vital to keep their sex life going it's only an enhancement. We have had countless 3somes and group sex and we have so much fun. For us, we do feel closer after. There's never once been a thought of leaving each other for the other person, even if they had a quality that was better than one of us has.

I think it really is just about knowing your boundaries. I personally know that I could never ever do this and not feel extremely upset after so I would be a very poor candidate for a threesome. I do know a couple that has on occasion and it doesn’t affect them at all. I also know a couple that got divorced from it. Not because of the threesome per se, but because of the resentment it caused the wife after the fact that sort of sprouted and highlighted other areas of their relationship. You have to know what you can handle. I also think there’s a difference between being able to have a threesome as a single person and as a person in a very committed relationship. Some can do the latter, others can’t.

The only threesome I’ve had is with my two partners that I live with and we do it often. It’s always very intimate for us. We are polyamorous. 
Two of my partners have had bad experiences. One had a threesome with a girl and her partner and the consequences of that weren’t good. The girl became attached to my partner even though he told her they wouldn’t ever be a dynamic. It was a one and done scene. She stalked him for a little bit and eventually left him alone. 
My other partner ended the threesome in the middle of the scene because he didn’t enjoy it and he just couldn’t connect with the couple during the scene. Both of them had throughly negotiated and vetted everyone before deciding to go through on the act. My third partner doesn’t do threesomes unless it’s at a play party and he rarely attends those. 
I do suggest you vet and negotiate with everyone for at least 2-3 months before engaging in any form of sexual contact with them. You want to make sure your bond with your first partner is strong and their is trust, honesty, and communication between both of you.
